As we reach the midpoint of December, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible diversity of holidays being celebrated right now—from Hanukkah and Yule to Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Bodhi Day.
While these traditions have different origins, they all share a powerful “common thread” that feels especially relevant to how we show up in our professional and personal lives: The triumph of light over darkness.
The Power of Reciprocity
In many of these traditions, “light” isn’t something we just wait for; it’s something we have to actively kindle. Whether it’s lighting a Menorah or a Kinara, the ritual is a reminder that striving to be our best selves is what encourages others to do the same.
When we lead with honesty and integrity, we create a “mirror effect” in our networks. Integrity isn’t just a personal virtue; it’s a professional catalyst. When we show up authentically, we give others the “permission” to do the same.
Gratitude for the “Huddle”
Winter is traditionally a time for the “huddle”—a season where we rely on our community to get through the coldest days. I am deeply grateful to my friends, family, and this professional network for being part of my “huddle” this year.
The support we give one another—whether through a recommendation, a piece of advice, or a simple “how are you?”—is the social version of the ancient winter fires. It keeps our collective momentum going.
My Three Takeaways for the Close of 2025:
- Honesty is the Shortest Path: Clear communication and radical honesty build the trust necessary for true innovation.
- Support is a Circle: We don’t just “give” support; we participate in a cycle of reciprocity. What we pour into our network eventually flows back to us.
- Be the Light: Even in a “dark” or challenging market, choosing to be your best self is the most effective way to inspire a team.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey this year. Let’s keep striving, keep supporting, and keep lighting the way for one another as we head into 2026.
